A Simple Way to Use ChatGPT to Maximize AI Traffic to your Website

For anyone used to optimizing websites for search engine traffic, dealing with AI traffic generation might seem like a complex hassle.  Here is a simple way to start. If you’ve been using ChatGPT at all, you know that the value of the output depends on quality of the input (the prompts you are using). So, continue thinking in SEO terms, but instead of focusing on key terms, focus on prompts that prospects will likely use to find your website and your solution. Here’s the strategy:

1.  Go to ChatGPT, describe your company and your offering in detail.

2.  Ask ChatGPT for 10 prompts that your prospects would most likely be using to find your company and your website.

3.  Use those 10 prompts to optimize your existing webpage copy (or create new webpages).  Because prompts are longer than key terms, you may or may not be able to use the entire prompt as the page title (the preferred method), but you will always be able to use it in the meta description.

4.  Make a note of everything in a spreadsheet and check on your prompts in Google’s AI Overview and also in ChatGPT to see if your company appears in the response.

5.  Adjust underperforming prompts.

Here’s an example:

The original prompt: We are a very small technology company in the Northwest that is an HPC system builder. We are known for accessible support, attention to detail, and completing projects on time and on budget. We have many great government contracts. However, we would like to grow the enterprise side of the business. Please list 10 prompts that enterprises looking for a company like ours would use.

ChatGPT’s Response

Here are 10 enterprise-oriented search prompts that a business might use when looking for an HPC system builder like your company:

1.     Reliable HPC system integrator for enterprise AI workloads

2.     High-performance computing solutions with U.S.-based support

3.     Custom HPC clusters for enterprise-scale data analysis

            Note that most of these are short enough to use for a page title. So, find relevant pages and swap out the existing title (and maybe a portion of the meta description) with one of these and keep track of the AI traffic as it starts materializing.
